The Bad SEO
Everyone wants really good SERP’s. Unfortunately, there are certain things that you can do that can really tear your precious SERP’s out of commission.
These are some things that you should completely avoid to maintain your position and ranking.
- Hidden Text – people usually use hidden texts to allow the crawlers to get you better paying ads. These actually provide ads not relevant to the content in the site. Also, sometimes people cloak large texts with the relevant keywords to get higher SERP’s. Both these are penalized by the search engines. You might get banned or de-indexed.
- Cloaking – cloaking is the practice of showing the crawlers different to the original content on the site. This is much like hidden text and is treated with the harshness.
- Duplicate Content – a heavily debated topic. Obviously if your site content is not original, you won’t nearly get the same rankings as the original site with the content. But if it’s your site with the rankings to start with and you add the content from another site into it, you will have a higher ranking. But, if by some means, the search engines find out about the copying, BAM, de-indexed.
- Keyword stuffing – if you have a money making blog and you place the keywords "make money online" in every single sentence, SE wrath again.
- Linking – Paid links are another big no no. Try to avoid sentences like "Advertised" "sponsors" etc.
