How to monetize a blog
Blogs are one of the most popular ways to make money online. Infact, nearly every 70 out of a 100 has one. But that doesn’t mean they use the blog. Blogging like any other art requires patience and practice to get better at. But to monetize a blog, that’s a different story. Adding ads on the blog just by looking at the layout may not get you as much money as you would like to make from it. Analysis of how to and where to place the ad is essential. For example, If you place an ad above the first post thinking that people have to mouse over it at some point of time is a waste of time. I kept an ad on that spot on another blog and hardly got 2 – 3 clicks a day. Instead, place it in between the posts and try to attract the clicks there by blending it in. In places where you know a person will click, near the submit button for comments etc, place an image ad there as the area that can be clicked is larger.
The ads you should definitely consider are Adsense and Kontera. Both provide excellent payouts. In some cases however, your earnings go down for Adsense. In that case, try Bidvertiser or Adbrite. Both provide really good services.
Don’t overload your page with ads. Make sure the visitor enjoys your blog. You don’t want the visitor to remember it as an ad stuffed blog.
Once you have the basic content and a good reader number, try getting paid to do reviews for other blogs. You can find such services on DigitalPoint. You can also try affiliate links. As you know, I promote NeverBlueAds.
Blogging is fun and there are a thousand other ways to do it. I’ll keep you posted!
